Lowden Lodge: Our Story
Your home away from home … Lowden Lodge (est. 1994) offers affordable luxury accommodation in a tranquil country setting.
As a family owned and run Guest House (Bed & Breakfast and Self-Catering) we pride ourselves on our attention to detail, hospitality and personality. And strive to provide the best service to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
We are located on the outskirts of Luanshya, centrally located in Zambia’s Copperbelt – a short drive from the mining towns of Ndola, Kitwe, Chingola and Mufulira, and the Mpongwe farming community.
With the new Copperbelt International Airport (scheduled to open mid-2020) only 20 minutes (20 km) away, Lowden Lodge is conveniently located for business and leisure visitors to Zambia’s Copperbelt.

The main lodge comprises 5 en-suite rooms equipped with cotton linen; air-conditioning; mosquito nets and spray (body & room); satellite TV; a complimentary refreshment station with mineral waters, tea, coffee and snacks; a stocked minibar (charge on items used); a writing desk (work station) and more.
Guests can make use of the communal lounge, TV lounge, dining area, outdoor patio and licensed bar (guests only) in the main lodge.
Additionally our three self-catering (2 x 2-room and 1 x 3-room) cottages each offer a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge with satellite TV and air-conditioning.
Camping at our dedicated campsite will be available soon.
Fresh Local Produce
A full English breakfast is included for all guests. Optional dinner is available at an extra $15 charge per person for a 3 course set menu.(*Dinner option must be selected on reservation).
Whenever possible, our meals are prepared with seasonal fruit & vegetables sourced from our 100% organic garden. Our eggs are free range, from our farm chickens. And our milk collected daily from our neighbour’s free-range dairy farm.
We also produce our own organic preserves and harvest honey from our wildflower beehives for our guests (and for sale in small quantities).
Vegetarian and Halaal and other special diet options available on request.
Concierge Services & Facilities
De-stress or keep fit with our complementary facilities – an indoor gym, large outdoor swimming pool and sauna.
Or take a long walk through our Miombo forest, and experience the tranquil beauty of Zambia’s bush and bird life.
We offer free WiFi in the main lodge and all the rooms. House keeping is included in all stays. A laundry service is available at a small extra fee. A backup generator ensures electricity supply (including aircons) during power outages.
Airport transfers and other transport can be arranged with a safe, reliable outside vendor. Please request a quote when booking your stay. Printing and other office facilities are available on request.

What is your child policy?
Children aged 5 and under stay and eat free. Children over 5 are charged at full price.
What is your refund / cancellation policy?
All reservations require 100% payment on booking. We offer a 95% refund for bookings cancelled more than 72 hours before check-in. 60% refund on cancellations made 48 to 72 hours before check-in. 40% 24 to 48 hours prior. No refund for no show or cancellations less than 24 hours prior to check in.

Do you offer discounts?
We do not offer discounts and our rates are as published.
We keep our rates competitive to the hotels in the area and offer a much different experience that is worth our published rates.
Discounted rates are available for bookings longer than 30 consecutive days. Please contact us for a rate.
I don't want to book online. Can I make a reservation?
Yes. Whilst online bookings provide convenience for many guests we do accept manual (offline) bookings. Please contact us with your reservation requirements. We accept a variety of payment methods to suit your needs.
What payment methods do you accept?
Online bookings will check out through PayPal – a globally recognised safe payment system. Guests without a PayPal account can pay directly with card – Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diner’s Club.
Offline (manual) bookings are also available (subject to current availability) with payment via EFT or Credit / Debit card.
As advance payment is required to book your stay we regrettably do not accept cash on arrival or checkout.
What currencies do you accept?
Online bookings are made through PayPal which accepts card payments in any currency. PayPal will convert from your local currency to USD at the current rate of exchange.
EFT payments can be made in Zambian Kwacha or South African Rand. Please contact us for the current rate of exchange.
Ancillary charges on checkout (drinks, laundry etc) can be paid with Visa or Mastercard. Our bank will convert your payment to our local currency (Zambian Kwacha) at the current rate of exchange.
Checkout charges can also be paid in cash – either Zambian Kwacha or US Dollars.
Do your rates include tax?
Our advertised rates exclude VAT (value added tax) of 16% and tourism levy of 1.5%. These will be added to your total cost on checkout.
Can you fetch me from the airport?
We can arrange airport transfers with a reliable licensed airport shuttle company. Please contact us for further information or include this under special requests on checkout.
Will I have to share a bathroom?
No. All rooms and cottages are en-suite. So you will only share with your accompanying guests (if any).
Will I have to interact with other guests?
Each guest in our main lodge has their own private room and en-suite bathroom. However share the common areas including the lounges, dining area, bar and other facilities.
Guests staying in our cottages book the entire self-catering cottage, with the price based on number of guests. And will not share facilities with anyone except their accompanying guests.
Is the water safe to drink?
Municipal tap water is not safe to drink in Zambia. However all our tap water comes from our borehole (well) which is tested and certified safe to drink. Bottled water is also available to purchase from our lodge bar and room minibars.
Do you serve breakfast in the guest rooms?
No. Breakfast is served in the Dining Room. Exceptions may be made for special circumstances if discussed in advance.
I will not arrive until very late. Can you accommodate a late check-in?
Yes, if prearranged and approved.
I will be arriving early. Can you accommodate an early check-in?
Sometimes. It depends on the guest schedule the night before and if guests checkout on time. For early check-ins, it is best to contact us the day of to find out the current status of the room. You are always more than welcome to check-in, leave your luggage and go about your day – we will move your luggage to the room when it is available.
I'd like to check out late. Is this possible?
Unfortunately late checkouts are not possible and any guests staying past the 10 am checkout time will incur a 50% room surcharge.
